A peptide is a short chain of amino acids — the body's own signalling language.
Proteins are long amino acid chains. Peptides are the short ones, typically between two and fifty residues. That length matters: it is short enough to be synthesised precisely in a laboratory, and specific enough to bind a single receptor rather than broadly altering cell chemistry.
